See those Hollywood stars with impeccable eyebrows, beautiful skin and no extra body hairs in sight?
It is thanks to the demands of our hollywoodian friends that the permanent hair removal techniques called electrology entered the world of aesthetics. Say farewell to the "moustache" that we so desperately try to hide by decoloring it, adieu to that one black hair on the chin that just seems to have popped out during the night, without forgetting the legs we often shave at the last minute to have them perfect for the evening, only to wake up feeling like a hedgehog the morning after.
The Hair.
Before getting rid of it, let's get to know it, because even if we talk of permanent hair removal, the hair cannot be eliminated on one go. Why not? Quite simply because the hair grows back after it reaches the end of it's cycle.
The hair cycle is composed of 3 phases called Anagen, Catagen and Telogen. The hair can be permanently eliminated only during the anagen phase when it's still growing. The treatment should therefore be done on a regular basis, for a duration of approximately 18 months.
How do we do it?
Electrology is a practice that destroys the matrix of the hair. The matrix is found at the very base of the hair, called the bulb. We use a technique that has proven itself in the United States; the thermo-blend sequential. This technique combines high frequency current with a direct current, in which the first one serves as a catalyst to the chemical reaction. The metal probe is extremely important. Institut Pyrène has chosen the best probe on the market, one that is specially coated to protect the epidermis from burns. This idea was thought up by the French and is manufactored by the Japanese ! Thanks to the probe, only the matrix of the hair is touched and the epidermis is left unharmed with no risk of scarring.
Are there any contraindications ?
Yes. In any case of bacterian infections; this treatment should not be performed. A simple infected spot or herpes can expand to the zone epilated if it is close to it. Also, moles are not to be epilated unless seen and accepted by the dermatologist.
Is there any risk of contamination ?
None. The probes used are sterile and of single use.
Does it leave marks after the treatment ?
On the facial area; a slight inflammation can be visible, disappearing swiftly in a few hours. When doing an intensive treatment of the upper lip, one should be prepared for the apparition of a slight oedeme that can still be visible the morning after, given that the zone treated is extremely sensible. When treating the rest of the body, small red dots appear where the hair was removed in the next 4 days and disappear in 1 to 3 weeks depending on the skin's healing ability.
Can another form of epilation be performed during the treatment ?
Once the treatments started, waxing between sessions is not recommended because the hair cycle will be disturbed, and adding to the treatment's global time. If waxing is still done inbetween the treatment sessions, it will not destroy the work already done and make the eliminated hair grow again.
What one should take in account when waiting for the results ?
The greatest corcern for our clients is that the results are not immediat. Little by little the hairs are permanently eliminated during their anagen phase, the density becomes less intense but all that is progressive and takes time. By 8 months of treatment the hair density should be down by half. By the end of the supposed duration of the treatment, it is normal to have still a select few hairs that keep growing due to different reasons. If there is a hormonal problem that comes to play, the number of lingering hairs can be higher.
Can the hairs be eliminated quicker if the time inbetween sessions is shorter ?
I case of a high density of hair, the treatment sessions can be done more often given that the hair has regrown sufficiantly to be removed. But in any case is it not possible to make the hair grow faster.
Is exposure to sunlight permitted ?
All exposure to real or artificial UV rays is highly unrecommended during 3 to 4 weeks after each treatment session. The zone treated can take on a darker coloration that can take up to 6 months to disappear. A strong suncreen is to be used.
Is the treatment painful ?
The sensitivity to feel pain is completely individual and differs greatly from one individual to another. Some say they only sense a light prick whilst others complain of insupportable pain. For the latter ones we recommend applying an anesthetic cream before each treatment.
